Another week has come to an end (and then some) and what a week it has been…
Thursday this week I was to report to OBGYN and did so. Found Dr. Faika as Paul told me and first I ofcourse had left my papers somewhere else, so had to find them, then I was to see what this department had to offer. For the first time I saw a newborn baby, not kidding! Stood there and saw a lot of things that need not be described with words and then the baby was out and all was well. After this it was a break as the operating theatre had no water, so we had to prioritize the water usage for the emergency cases, but there were few… I didn’t really mind having a slow day, so it was just enjoying the company of all the doctors and nurses in the staff-rom. ALL OF A SUDDEN I was told that: “come on, you’re scrubbing in with me on this one”. Without really knowing what I had said yes to, I stood up, learnt how to scrub in, applied my new knowledge immediately and there I was! Fully equipped to assist on the c-section. I even pushed the kid out when all was ready! AMAZING! :D after all of this, my head was just overloaded, so fell asleep early that day after coming home from the hospital..
The next day I was also in obgyn. ALSO got to assist today! It’s just so cool all the stud I get to do here! Started the day doing rounds, then just waiting around for any incoming patient. Was a pretty quiet day, so we went to the red cross-place in town, because there was this ship from the Chinese navy that was stationed in the docks that did several surgeries and some other procedures. We wanted to ask the redcross-guys if we could be allowed on to the ship to get a tour. They said we had to just go and ask at the ship directly,so we did. Passed 1 securitycheck, then another one, but things stopped on the third. Apparently we needed some sort of ID… Sheeez :p
Tried again on Saturday and luckily enough, there was another doctor from Coast general that was just coming in as we did, so he helped us onboard and we got to see their operating theatre and ward. Were also some surgeons from the German navy there visiting, as they were stationed just next to the red cross-ship. After this, we wanted to go jet-skiing, so went to Travellers Lodge to do that. After some walking on the beach, it ended up with watching united play wb (don’t ask) and a coupleof drinks before I went back to the house to watch Chelsea draw (yaay) and then sleep..
TODAY I got my first sunburn. Considering my skin and all, I’m quite impressed that it took 2 weeks for it to happen =) Reason for this was that we went to a Lions charity-activity. There was a sports-thing for visually and hearing disabled kids. I even got to hand out prizes! ”Can we have Bjorn, all the way from Norway, to hand out the prizes?” So cool to be announced ;) After the games, there was lunch and I got to hand out muffins to all the kids! Real fun :D After, we went to go jetskiing again, and this time it was 20 min out on the open sea just playing around. What was kinda fun is that this same morning I spoke with Maiken at home, she wore a sweater, woolen-socks and told me that now it’s closing in to 0 C at home, and here I am – jetskiing =) After the jetski I took a quick look on the score for Everton - Liverpool. It was a good day :p
Tomorrow I’m going to try a night-shift, so we’ll see what that brings to the table!
