Last days

Soo, now I’m at the airport in Doha, Qatar, on the way home to Norway. Have had an awesome last couple of days in Nairobi, Masai Maara and Mombasa.

So Carnivore was really cool! Got to eat crocodile (VERY unusual taste, could never decide wether it was fish or meat..) and ostrich which was REALLY good! Me and Rahul jugged down some TENTA before we left, so was a happy night :p

Day after: safari! Started out by the hotel at 830 and met with the rest of the group. Me, Betty and Rahul met with Tasha and Ashley from the US, Paul from Canada ey, and The good doctor (as he was to be known as) from Iran. His name just wouldn’t stick… :/ Turned out to be an amazing group to travel with – miss you guys =)Had a 6 hour drive where 3 of it was BUMPY as nothing I’ve ever experienced before! After 2,5 you actually get used to it :o Think I might have gotten a concussion aswell from sleeping and banging my head in the window of the car :p We arrived at the camp where we were to stay in tents. Well, not really tents, was more like lodges, so bumped the expectations up a little :p After settling in, we went out for our first game-drive! Was blown away when going past zebras, giraffes, lions, impalas, waterbuffalos and much more.. After 2 hours touring around with our amazing driver – Nathaniel – we went back to the “tents” to have dinner and an early night as the next day we were starting off at 6 am…

6 am! Rise and shine! Went for a whole-day game drive and as the day before, we saw the giraffes, zebras, lions, etc, and after driving really far into the maara, we got to see hippos and crocodiles aswell as a lioness up close. We also had lunch out in the middle of nowhere, really nice! We drove back at around 3 and everybody fell asleep – despite the somewhat shaky road on the way back. Arriving at the camp we had a couple of drinks, dinner with periodically power-cuts so we ate in the romantic lighting from our cellphones, and then bed… It’s amazing how a day of just driving around just drains you!

Last day – Saturday – we went for a drive in the morning, got to see two giraffes mating (or trying to anyway – giraaaaaaffe?) and an amazing sunrise… Back to the camp, had some breakfast and then drove back to Nairobi. When we reached the proper road it was like floating on air! :D I met up with Betty, Paul, Edwin and Grace for our last dinner together in the EA-house – very good night!

Next morning we had breakfast just outside the hotel and all of a sudden there was a huge crowd gathering outside. Not for us tho, some lady was threatening to jump from a second floor balcony. After a couple of minutes screaming to her boyfriend about this and that, she was helped inside again. The TV-team that was there looked a bit disappointed actually :p This was the last (so far atleast) we saw of Tasha, Ashley and Paul. The good doctor had left for Tanzania at 730 that morning, and me and rahul went on the bus for Nairobi at 9:30. A trip where we sat in front of Sir smellsalot, it was just insane… So a LONG 9 hours! Also watched the in-bustrip-movies. First some random stuff I slept through, then Men of Honour – good movie - and then one of the worst movies I’ve every seen. Something about a couple of extraordinary large crocodiles in some river that were hostile like nothing else and people tried to kill them with chainsaws to their tails and shotguns with exploding shells and AAAAAH! I get irritated just from thinking about it. In other words: recommended. Came back to mbsa, had a couple of drinks at the white sands resort with some friends and then we just went home to chill. Rahul and me were watchin some Dave Chapelle-clips on youtube – hilarious stuff! Chip! :D

Last day in Mombasa, Monday. I went to the hospital to take some photos with the people I’ve worked with and then me and Rahul went to town to check out some of the markets and then had dinner at Mikayes – the bar that is just on the other side of the wall from where we live :p Had my last walk on the beach at night, and then it was off to bed..

Today we went to the hospital first, dropped off Rahul and then Rasta took me to the airport. After A LOT of confusion for the immigration-stuff (trust me – get there early) I set of for Zanzibar and Dar es salaam. I definitely have to go to Zanzibar one day, just seeing the water and the beaches from the plane was amazing!

And all that takes me here! Doha airport, Qatar. Never seen this many men in dresses before… It’s 21:50 now, my plane is at 2:00, so have plenty of time to do nothing… Knowing myself I’ll end up thinking about the last month ‘till I fall asleep and get mugged or something =)

Wierd to be going back…
